Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre Statement Regarding Tragedy at 27A/S 13th Street
I am extremely saddened by the tragic loss of Pauline Aluska, and my thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.
I have been in contact with the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) regarding the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of 27A and S 13th Street in Lindenhurst. While this project first broke ground in March 2017, some unanticipated site conditions, including the discovery of a very high water table, have delayed its completion. The signal poles are currently being fabricated with a manufacturer, and DOT anticipates delivery and installation to occur in mid-October. Upon delivery, we can expect the traffic signal to be up and running about a week later. In order to ease the transition to a traffic signal at this location, for the first two weeks, vehicles traveling on 27A will approach a blinking yellow light (requiring a decrease in speed), while vehicles approaching the signal on S 13th Street will see a blinking red light (requiring a full stop). After two weeks, the signal will transition to a normal red-yellow-green traffic signal pattern. In an effort to accelerate the installation process, I will continue to follow up with DOT. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office at 631-957-2087 or you can email me directly at jeanpierrek@nyassembly.gov.
Once again, I extend my deepest condolences to Pauline Aluska’s loved ones.
