Assemblywoman Jean-Pierre Statement on Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
November 21, 2017
“As a Haitian-American, I am outraged by the Trump Administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the nearly 60,000 Haitians living in the United States. Ending TPS as Haiti continues to recover from its worst catastrophe in modern history is an outrageous and cruel mistake that undermines our history as a welcoming nation to those fleeing disaster and weakens us on the world stage. This underscores the need for Congress to immediately pass legislation to extend TPS, and it is my hope that over the next 18 months, we can devise a comprehensive solution that protects the taxpayers, business owners and families who are threatened by this decision. “
