Statement from Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre
“Today is a sad day for New York. From the outset of the disturbing allegations of sexual harassment against Governor Cuomo, I have maintained how important it is for all such allegations to be taken seriously and investigated accordingly as a proper exercise of due process, a right to which all accused individuals are entitled in our democracy. The subsequent investigation conducted by the Office of Attorney General Letitia James was performed diligently and comprehensively and I am deeply troubled by its findings. I applaud the courageous women who stepped forward to share their painful stories, stories which have unfortunately become all too familiar but are important for us to move forward and do better by women as a society; this is especially true when it comes to holding accountable those in positions of power as enormous as Governor of the State of New York whose actions harm women. It is clear from these findings that Governor Cuomo has eroded the trust placed in him to continue serving as Governor, and once the Assembly Judiciary Committee expeditiously completes its impeachment inquiry with the documents and evidence provided by the Attorney General, I believe subsequent impeachment proceedings are both inevitable and appropriate.”
