Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia) is proud to announce the New York State Education Department and New York State Library have approved six projects at local libraries within the 133rd Assembly District. The projects are funded through a $34 million appropriation through the 2022-23 State Budget.

“One of my priorities as an elected official is to ensure our libraries are represented. Not only are they a wonderful place to borrow books and other materials, but they are the true heart and hub of our community, particularly in rural communities across New York,” said Byrnes. “One of the biggest challenges so many people in the 133rd Assembly District face is access to affordable and reliable broadband. Our libraries provide that, as well as programming for new mothers, seniors, people looking to enter the workforce and children. I am thrilled these projects have been approved in order to sustain and support the growing services our libraries offer.”

The specific projects within the 133rd Assembly District are among 197 construction projects being funded throughout the state. They include:

• Avon Free Library to increase American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility, create outdoor programming space and safe parking ($371,567);
• Caledonia Library Association for Phase IV for their expansion project including the interior of the new building and joining the new and existing buildings together ($456,583);
• Perry Public Library to add ADA accessibility in the doorway and upgrade fire and security systems ($32,418);
• Cohocton Public Library for the installation of an elevator, roof and window glass as well as second-floor renovations ($81,731);
• E.J. Cottrell Memorial Library to purchase a new library building, install utilities and renovate 2,100 square feet of interior public space ($110,775); and
• Prattsburgh Free Library for library renovations and four-phase expansion with phase one including interior demolition, renovation and new energy-efficient doors and windows ($137,992).
