Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes (R,C-Caledonia) today joined fellow legislators and local highway superintendents at the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) rally. The event was hosted by Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) during Local Roads Matter week in Albany.
The rally was held in support of a $150 million budget increase in CHIPS funding. The current allocation outlined in the governors Executive Budget is $438.1 million. The $65 million Extreme Winter Recovery funding will be cut in the proposed budget.
CHIPS funding is an issue that falls by the wayside every year, said Byrnes. The governor has proposed maintaining instead of increasing funding for local roads. The governor has also proposed cutting Extreme Winter Recovery funding which is necessary after long, upstate winters. Gov. Cuomo is once again demonstrating that he doesnt care about anything north of New York City, and I intend to fight for those of us who do.
