Walsh Introduces Resolution For Epilepsy Awareness ‘Wear Purple’ Day
Yesterday, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) introduced a resolution to commemorate Saturday, March 26, 2022 as Epilepsy Awareness Day or “Wear Purple Day.” The purpose of the resolution is to increase the public’s understanding of the brain disorder and to eliminate the stigma that surrounds it. Walsh spoke of the over 3.5 million Americans who have an epilepsy diagnosis and the day-to-day challenges they face.
“Millions of individuals worldwide suffer from epilepsy, including 1 in 26 Americans who will develop epilepsy at some point in their life. This day was founded by Cassidy Megan of Nova Scotia, Canada on March 26, 2008. Cassidy chose the color purple because lavender is recognized as the international flower of epilepsy. Each March 26, we wear purple and remind our neighbors about the importance of epilepsy awareness and research. With a proper diagnosis and correct treatment, many cases of epilepsy can be easily managed,” said Walsh.
