This afternoon, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) joined Town of Charlton Supervisor Joe Grasso, Town of Charlton Councilmen Jim Glavin and Dave Robbins to unveil the town’s new skid steer. In 2019, Walsh allocated $50,000 in State and Municipal (SAM) Facilities Grant to be used towards the purchase of the new equipment.

“I am happy to have the ability to provide grant opportunities to the municipalities that I represent, particularly for the things we don’t even think about that are so important behind the scenes when it comes to improving the communities that we call home,” said Walsh. “We know that every dollar counts when it comes to a rural town’s infrastructure in the northeast and this versatile piece of equipment will help the town highway department restore roadways and clear trails for many years to come.”

The purchase of the skid steer will allow the Charlton Highway Department to grind out bad spots in roads and execute light excavating on trails for residents and visitors, as well as to move around large materials housed in the highway garage and on job sites. The equipment has an anticipated lifespan of 15 to 20 years and is an overall great investment for various projects and needs throughout the town.
