Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) hosted her second annual blood drive at the Ballston Spa Elks Lodge alongside the American Red Cross on Monday, Aug. 1. Yesterday’s blood drive exceeded its goal of 42 units by collecting 48, including 41 whole blood and 7 power red units.

Blood donations typically decrease during the summer months, but demand for these life-saving donations continues to remain high. In fact, this summer we have seen a 20% drop in collections from last year. Walsh is encouraging residents to continue searching for and booking appointments at the Red Cross Web site.

“Thank you to everyone who came out to yesterday’s successful blood drive,” said Walsh. “It was the second time I have ever given blood, and I share in the pride of everyone who donated knowing that it will be put to good use in saving lives!”
