Walsh: No Surprise, New York Ranked as State with Worst Economic Outlook Yet Again
Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) joined Assembly Minority Conference colleagues for a press conference today at the New York State Capitol to highlight the significance of Tax Day in New York state and summarize the findings of the 2024 Rich States, Poor States: ALEC-Laffer State Economic Competitiveness Index, which compares the economic status and outlook of all 50 states in the U.S. New York is ranked as the state with the worst economic outlook in America for the 11th consecutive year.
“More than just a reminder to submit your taxes, Tax Day serves as a stark reminder of New York’s economic challenges. New Yorkers pay some of the highest taxes in the country and we consistently come in last for our business climate. Tax hikes continue to drive New Yorkers out of the state, yet our majority colleagues persist in prioritizing tax increases.”
“Taxes must be lowered to alleviate the financial strain on countless families across New York. The exodus of residents from our state is a testament to this reality. Concrete steps must be taken to improve our state’s economic competitiveness. We cannot afford to remain stagnant while other states thrive. We need policies that encourage growth and attract investment, not drive residents away.”
