Walsh Honors Ballston Spa National Bank as A Historic Preservation Registry Site

Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) presented a New York State Assembly proclamation to Ballston Spa National Bank at their original location on Front Street in Ballston Spa today to celebrate the organization’s induction into the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry following Walsh’s nomination. There to receive the award was Bank President Christopher Dowd and bank staff. Walsh selected Ballston Spa National Bank for this honor, and it takes one of 10 spots the assemblywoman is permitted to nominate and induct each term.

The New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry program is administered by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation and highlights businesses that have been in operation for at least 50 continuous years and have contributed to their community’s history.

“Ballston Spa National Bank has been an integral part of our community for more than 185 years,” said Walsh. “This historic designation is a recognition of their achievements, but more than that, it’s an acknowledgment of their ongoing efforts to enhance the lives of those living in Ballston Spa. BSNB’s presence has been a cornerstone of stability and growth in our region since the bank here was opened in May of 1839 thanks to the many community efforts and initiatives they partake in—including partnerships with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, LifeWorks Community Action and the American Red Cross and by supporting the next generation of leaders through scholarships and funding for the Ballston Spa Central School District Robotics Program—to address the local needs of the Capital Region.”

“I’m delighted to recognize and celebrate Ballston Spa National Bank’s outstanding achievement, and I’m proud to have supported and guided them toward this well-deserved honor. Congratulations on your remarkable history and the legacy you will continue to build for future generations!” Walsh concluded.

“We are grateful to Assemblywoman Walsh for nominating Ballston Spa National Bank as a State Historic Business, cementing our legacy as the oldest bank in Saratoga County and as a longstanding resource for our community,” said Christopher Dowd, President of Ballston Spa National Bank. “BSNB has proudly served the greater Capital Region for more than 186 years, and we look forward to a future of opportunity and innovation as we continue to grow and support our communities.”

Next spring, BSNB will begin renovating its Home Office in Ballston Spa. These improvements include modernizing the branch’s interior and creating available office space for lease in the downtown area while preserving the building’s historic elements.
