Walsh Joins with Legislative Colleagues, Experts and Stakeholders for Local Human Trafficking Task Force
Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C-Ballston) joined fellow legislators, experts and local stakeholders yesterday for a vital roundtable discussion as part of the Assembly Minority Task Force on Human Trafficking. The event, held at the Rensselaer County Building, focused on the regional impact of human trafficking and how New York state can enhance its efforts to combat this horrific crime.
The task force was formed to address rising concerns about labor and sexual exploitation in New York. These forums aim to tackle the threat of human trafficking and develop legislative solutions to protect the most vulnerable. At the Capital Region forum, participants, including law enforcement and victim advocates, discussed key issues such as strengthening survivor support, improving law enforcement coordination and the impact of the migrant crisis on trafficking.
“Human trafficking is a significant concern impacting our local communities, including the Capital Region, where we are working to uncover the full extent of the issue. As a child advocate in Saratoga County and a member of the Education and Mental Health Committees, I understand the unique challenges we face,” said Walsh.
Walsh continued, “This Minority Task Force is a crucial opportunity to develop targeted strategies by listening to experts and stakeholders, including local organizations like the Runaway and Homeless Youth Program, Wellspring and multiple Saratoga County agencies. By incorporating their insights into our legislative efforts, we can enhance our support systems and prevent these crimes. The urgency of this task force cannot be overstated. I’m grateful to all who have come together to tackle this critical issue.”
“These discussions are essential in raising awareness and providing a platform for all voices to be heard—especially survivors. We are here to listen, learn and act,” Walsh concluded.
