Walsh Named Assembly Ranking Minority Member of Education Committee

Today Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I, REF – Ballston) announced that she has been selected as the Ranking Minority Member of the Committee on Education by Minority Leader Brian M.  Kolb (R,C,I-Canandaigua).

“New York State must be a national leader in public education. We have access to tremendous resources, talented teachers and quality schools districts,” said Walsh.  “We also face a defining challenge - to equip the future generation of New Yorkers with the skills they need to be successful in the ever-changing world around them. As the Minority Ranker on the Assembly Committee on Education I will work hard to ensure we keep up.”

Beginning in January Walsh will also serve on the Assembly Committees on Ethics and the Judiciary. She will continue to sit on the Mental Health and Libraries & Education Technology Committees.

Additionally, she has been named to the Minority Conference leadership team as Vice-Chair of Policy Development.

“I am grateful to Leader Kolb for providing me with a new opportunity to fight for my constituents. I’m here to listen to the problems being faced by residents and offer solutions, and I strongly believe that’s where all good policy development begins.”

Walsh noted that she’s looking forward to working alongside the newly appointed Chair of the Assembly Education Committee Assemblyman Michael Benedetto.

“I think we are going to work well together because we have an opportunity to start fresh and work toward common-sense solutions. The education of our children is not a partisan issue, and I look forward to working toward improvements that will benefit school districts in every corner of the state.”

Walsh returns to Albany after running unopposed for her second term.
