Today, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston) and the Saratoga County Fair hosted the second annual ThinkDIFFERENTLY Day for individuals living with disabilities and their families. This special event offers attendees with special needs the opportunity to enjoy a sensory-sensitive morning of fun.

In celebration of ThinkDIFFERENTLY Day, the Saratoga County Fair’s midway and carnival rides opened early for a sensory-sensitive morning with no flashing lights or loud noises. In addition, the Agriculture and Home Arts, Fine Arts and 4-H Small Animal Exhibits as well as the cattle barn, horse show and 4-H Snack Bar and the Brickyard Grill all opened early to allow attendees the chance to enjoy a full morning of fun at the fairgrounds. 4-H youth ambassadors also helped escort individuals and groups who attended this morning’s activities.

“It is an honor to play a role in hosting the ThinkDIFFERENTLY Day here in Saratoga County. I’d like to thank the Saratoga County Fair for providing a sensory-friendly environment for those who may have felt overwhelmed by large crowds, loud noises and flashing lights,” said Walsh. “It is extremely rewarding to see such prominent organizations in our community embrace, support and help to further develop events and activities for people of all abilities. I look forward to building ThinkDIFFERENTLY Day at the fair into an annual tradition for children and adults with special needs to enjoy for years to come.”

"Prior to ThinkDIFFERENTLY Day, we missed out on a large population of people who may have not felt comfortable in joining us to explore the several great exhibits that we have to offer. Whether you like the agriculture booths, animals, food or rides, ThinkDIFFERNTLY Day helps to ensure people of all abilities enjoy their time at the fair."

More than 60 communities around New York state that have adopted “ThinkDIFFERENTLY” resolutions to promote a supportive environment for residents with special needs.
