Walsh: Our High School Seniors Deserve a Graduation
Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston), along with the Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay and members of the Minority Conference, have sent a letter to Gov. Cuomo requesting schools be allowed to host graduation ceremonies for high school seniors.
Walsh and her colleagues believe that under proper guidance, school districts should have the ability to develop socially distanced graduation ceremonies within the framework of their communities.
This has been an extremely trying year for New York students. Now that many regions are seeing substantial drops in COVID-19 cases, it is time not just for reopening the economy, but for repairing the building blocks of our communities. I can think of no better place to do that than in our schools. With graduation dates quickly approaching, its vital that schools are given proper guidance on how to proceed said Walsh. Graduating high school is a tremendous accomplishment, and the class of 2020 and their families deserve to celebrate those accomplishments.
Walsh serves as the Assembly Minority Ranking Member on the Assembly Committee on Education.
