Walsh Sends Letter To Gov. Cuomo, Dr. Zucker Requesting Delay Of Local Nursing Home Closure
Today, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston) sent a letter to Gov. Cuomo and Department of Health Commissioner Zucker requesting that any nursing home closure deadlines be delayed, if necessary, given the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this week, Walsh was tipped off that the Saratoga Center for Rehab and Skilled Nursing Care, located at 149 Ballston Avenue in the village of Ballston Spa, was granted permission to close by the New York State Department of Health on December 2.
The facility, which was previously owned and operated by Saratoga County as “Maplewood Manor,” applied to DOH for permission to shut down on October 30.
“Over the course of the past couple of days, I have heard little to nothing back from the Department of Health. I have, however, received numerous emails and phone calls from family members, as well as the facility staff and administration, who were unaware of the situation at hand,” said Walsh. “There are 87 residents of this facility, 87 individuals who will now have to relocate ahead of an anticipated closure date of February 15, 2021. That is an ambitious goal to meet with so many factors to take into consideration, and for that reason I have asked the governor and Dr. Zucker to consider a delay of the closure deadline, if necessary, to allow a safe transition for these elderly individuals.”
Walsh still awaits answers to the questions she has posed to the Department of Health earlier this week.
