Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) and Assemblyman John McGowan (R,C-Rockland) hosted a lunch and legislative meeting with members from the law enforcement community earlier this week. Slater has fostered a strong relationship with those on the police force and they discussed their opinions on bail reform and increased judicial discretion. Crime and public safety have been major topics of discussion in the Legislature bail reform was originally passed in 2019. Minority state legislators held a press conference earlier this week with law enforcement, crime victims, victims’ advocates and others to discuss their deep concerns about these laws and how they plan to make changes.

"We can't fix cashless bail responsibly unless law enforcement is given a seat at the table. Addressing out-of-control crime is New Yorkers' top priority, and I am committed to working with groups like the Affiliate Police Associations of Westchester to formulate the necessary solutions that will keep our families safe. I am proud to be their voice in the Assembly because they proudly protect our communities," said Slater.
