Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown), a member of the Assembly’s Transportation Committee, continues to focus on important infrastructure projects within the 94^th Assembly District. Among those projects is the long awaited resurfacing of State Route 52. The work will extend from Fowler Ave. in the Town of Carmel to just beyond the intersection with State Route 311 in the Town of Kent. Furthermore, DOT plans to repair stormwater catch basins located along State Route 52.

“The Route 52 resurfacing project has been a priority for the Town of Kent for years and I am excited to see it come to fruition. I am working closely with our partners at DOT to ensure the project continues to move forward and I am pleased with the progress. These investments in the Hudson Valley are vital quality of life improvements that will have long term benefits on multiple levels including improved connectivity, economic growth and enhanced public safety,” said Slater.

“I’m thrilled to see construction begin on the Route 52 corridor in Kent. This paving and maintenance was neglected for too long. Seeing this work done was a major priority for my administration and for Assemblyman Slater. I thank him and New York state for listening to residents, commuters and business owners, and for their work to follow through on fixing critical transportation infrastructure,” said Kevin Byrne, Putnam County Executive.

“Myself and the residents of Kent would like to express their gratitude to Assemblyman Matt Slater for all his efforts in securing the funds to pave a portion of Route 52. For years the Town of Kent has fielded numerous complaints from concerned residents about the potholes and dangerous driving surface of Route 52. Since repeated patching and filling of the potholes by New York State has become ineffective, the only option was to repave the road. We are pleased and grateful that Assemblyman Slater was able to obtain the money to pave a section of Route 52 and we are hopeful that next year we will be able to secure the funds to pave the rest of 52 through Kent,” said Jaime McGlasson, Town of Kent Supervisor.

Advocating for an enhanced allocation of state funding towards the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement program (CHIPS), Slater’s efforts have resulted in a noteworthy $60 million increase that is now in motion across New York State. Locally, each municipality within the 94^th Assembly District saw an increase of 13% compared to the year prior. These dollars will help local Highway Departments keep up with rising costs associated with national inflation.

Additionally, Assemblyman Slater is closely monitoring the planned paving of Route 202 in Yorktown. Collaborating closely with Dave Paganelli, the Highway Superintendent of Yorktown, the initiation of the letting process is set to commence this month, and high expectations of commencing the paving work by September. Slater, who previously served as the Yorktown Supervisor, continues to emphasize the significance of well-maintained roads as crucial infrastructure for transportation, commerce, and overall economic growth.

“The Route 202 corridor is a major thoroughfare for the community,” said Slater. “This investment will provide a significant benefit for those traveling to FDR Park, the commerce areas of Lowe’s and Trader Joes and other attractive areas of the region. It is good to see the project progressing and I hear from many within the community in anticipation of its completion.”
