Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) has joined his fellow colleagues on both sides of the aisle calling on Governor Hochul to sign legislation to enact A.1673-A, allowing for greater coverage of biomarker testing. Biomarker testing has been shown to greatly improve health outcomes for patients facing certain illnesses or conditions by allowing for much more targeted treatments.

Biomarker testing has revolutionized the landscape of cancer care and the identification of optimal treatments for various severe and life-threatening ailments. This is due to its pivotal role in enabling the use of precise treatments, which can enhance patients' chances of survival and their overall well-being.

Despite the established advantages, numerous insurance providers lag behind in adapting to the latest developments in biomarker testing. Consequently, certain patients are confronted with the dilemma of either bearing the financial burden themselves or forgoing the testing that could potentially link them to life-saving therapies or help them steer clear of unnecessary and ineffective treatments.
