Various roadway projects are underway in the 94th Assembly District, leaving residents concerned with traffic and safety. Having heard from many constituents, New York State Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown), a member of the Transportation Committee, along with local officials and the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) went to tour the sites and advocate on behalf of the residents.

“We’re trying to mitigate the impact of the detours as much as possible, and crews are working diligently to get this project done efficiently and timely,” said Slater. “I strongly encourage everyone to drive with care, and any questions residents of the community have, please contact my office.”

The sites in question include the Route 311 culvert off I-84 in Patterson. What was supposed to be a relining project has now turned into a culvert replacement project. When the contractor went into the culvert to begin relining, it was apparent the infrastructure was so obsolete and outdated, that it was necessary to replace the culvert entirely.

“I would like to thank Assemblyman Slater for arranging a tour of the Route 311 construction site with the NYSDOT regional director, and for his invaluable assistance addressing the traffic safety issues created by the detour. We are fortunate to have a state representative as concerned with the issues of the Town of Patterson as Matt Slater,” said Richard Williams Sr. supervisor, Town of Patterson.

Also included in the site visits were the widening of Pugsley Road located in the Town of Southeast and the maintenance of the culvert off Hill Blvd. and Route 6 in Yorktown.

“Thanks to the quick response from Assemblyman Slater, residents can be assured their traffic concerns have been heard and DOT is working as efficiently as possible to complete this project,” said Nick Durante, town supervisor of the Town of Southeast.

“It is great to see Assemblyman Slater get very hands-on with the Department of Transportation and try to bring the services to our region. Region eight contributes the most tax money and has the most roadways but gets the least amount of service. We need more champions in Albany,” said Ed Lachterman, Yorktown town supervisor.

“The Town Board of Yorktown has been trying to rectify the situation regarding flooding of Oceola Lake and has requested multiple times a meeting with DOT officials. We appreciate Assemblyman Slater for finally arranging a site visit with DOT, local officials, and concerned residents. We are hopeful the agreed upon actions with DOT have a positive impact on this matter,” said Yorktown councilman Sergio Esposito.

Slater continues to put the residents of his district first and ensures they receive timely answers. Along with this, Slater has been a huge advocate for increasing much-needed funding aimed at repairing local roads in the Hudson Valley region.
