Slater ‘Shed the Meds’ Event in Yorktown Successful
Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown), organized another successful “Shed the Meds” event. This initiative was brought together by key supporters, including Yorktown Police Department, and notable organizations Drug Crisis in Our Backyard and Alliance for Safe Kids, in a united effort to support the community.
The event provided residents a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications, helping to combat the opioid crisis and prevent misuse. Over 150 lbs of medication were collected, demonstrating the community’s commitment to addressing the dangers of unused prescriptions.
“The opioid epidemic has touched so many lives here in New York. By removing these medications from homes, we are taking a critical step in preventing addiction and keeping our neighborhoods safer,” said Slater. “By working together, we can prevent prescription drugs from being misused, protect our environment, and keep our families safe.”
“Thank you Assemblyman Matt Slater for continuing to assist people in removing unwanted and unused medication from their medicine cabinets. This protects those that are misusing substances and our environment by disposing of them in an appropriate manner. Thank you for the continued support of our mission which is to help families living with substance misuse and their loved ones that are at risk. For help call 914-582-8384,” said Susan Salomone, Executive Director and Founder of Drug Crisis in our Backyard.
“It is so important to have events like this to share awareness of not only the opioid epidemic, but to also let community members know that there is something that they may do to help. By simply disposing of unwanted or expired medications safely in the Prescription Drug Drop Box they are helping to keep drugs out of the hands of our youth or anyone else that may misuse them,” said Liz Talbert, Executive Director of Alliance for Safe Kids.
