Fitzpatrick Announces DEC Accepting Summer Camp Applications
Camps open to children ages 12-17
Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick (R,C,I-Smithtown) says the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is accepting applications for its summer environmental education camp program.
"This summer camp program is a great opportunity for children to experience New York’s wildlife and resource conservation efforts," said Fitzpatrick. "I urge anyone interested in attending or sending a child to camp to contact DEC. The program also provides opportunities for community organizations to sponsor children."
The camp program is in its 58th year of providing residential conservation education for young New Yorkers. At the week-long camps, children attend ecology workshops, are immersed in conservation education and participate in fun activities and games that teach wise use of natural resources.
The camps, open to children of ages 12-14 and 15-17, are held during July and August at four sites: Colby, near the village of Saranac Lake in Franklin County; DeBruce, in the southern Catskills near the village of Livingston Manor in Sullivan County; Rushford, in the Genesee River Valley in Allegany County; and Pack Forest, north of Warrensburg in the southern Adirondacks.
