Assemblyman Fitzpatrick Encourages Boating Enthusiasts To Take Safety Classes

Assemblyman Michael J. Fitzpatrick (R,C,I-Smithtown) is encouraging boating enthusiasts to attend the summer boating safety classes offered by the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

“The safety course is an excellent way for boaters of all ages to brush up on boating safety skills,” remarked Fitzpatrick, “and is required for all individuals who operate personal watercraft in New York.”

Children between the ages of 10 and 18 who operate motorboats must complete the safety course, noted Fitzpatrick.

Classes will be held June 11, July 10 and 23, and August 13 at the Empire Safety Council in Smithtown. Further information is available by calling William Eves toll-free at (800) 246-3603.

“I hope Long Island boaters have a safe and wonderful summer on our waterways,” said Fitzpatrick. “Attending this summer’s boating safety classes will only make our waterways safer and more enjoyable.”

Some boating safety classes charge a fee that may vary among classes. For more information on the boating safety class and certification process, call (518) 474-0445 or visit www.nysparks.state.ny.us/boating/edu_boat.asp.
