Fitzpatrick Welcomes Local High School Student to Assembly
Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick (R,C,I-Smithtown) today welcomed Andres Carrion from Huntington Station to the Assembly as part of the 19th Annual Puerto Rican Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI). The goal of the institute is to provide Puerto Rican and Hispanic students with educational opportunities to enhance their leadership skills and knowledge in order to be productive citizens and to better serve the community.
Students are nominated by school staff and qualifications for acceptance include leadership potential, good academic performance and ability to participate in group process. Only about 200 students attend the institute statewide.
“Andres was one of only a select few who earned the opportunity to visit Albany and learn more about the legislative process and augment his leadership abilities,” said Fitzpatrick. “It was my pleasure to meet with Andres, and I’m confident he is on track for success in whichever career path he chooses to explore.”
