A statement from Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,I,C – Lockport)

Assemblyman Mike Norris visited Lockport and Barker High schools last week, to recognize and award two students for their posters, which were submitted for the Assemblyman’s Second Annual Memorial Day Poster Contest.

The contest was open to all students, grades 9 – 12, in the 144th Assembly District, and students entered through their schools or individually. The theme for the contest was “Freedom isn’t Free,” where students were challenged to depict a scene honoring and remembering those who have served our country.

Norris’ office received many posters from students across the district that we of a variety of styles, including digital media, sketch work, watercolor, photography and interpretive art.

Allison Hotaling of Barker and Haylee Green of Lockport were chosen as the contests winners and they both received an official New York State Citation and will have their posters displayed in the State Legislative Office Building in Albany, and Assemblyman Norris’ district office for all to see.

“I am very proud of these two very talented students,” said Norris, “Through their unique talents and thoughtful interpretation of the theme “Freedom Isn’t Free,” these students have captured and conveyed the gravity of the ultimate sacrifice, and created pieces that resonate with the spirit of the Memorial Day.”
