Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C-Lockport) selected two students from the 144^th Assembly District who participated in his Annual Memorial Day Poster Contest as co-winners for their artistic depictions of what “Freedom isn’t Free” truly means. The annual art contest helps build connection for today’s youth between the service and sacrifice of our nation’s military and veterans, particularly high school students who are at a critical crossroads in their life choosing a path forward in their future.

“As high school students begin to image their future, I have found their depictions of the cost of our national freedom to be especially poignant over the years through this poster contest,” said Norris. “I believe this contest has been a wonderful way to build connection and deepen the sense of appreciation and community we have here in Western New York, adding to the quality of life that makes us all love to call this place home. I am very proud of these students and their hard work and would like to thank everyone who has participated.”

This year, the two students whose artwork was chosen were Ella Gancasz from Barker Senior High School and Kayann Ellis from Lockport High School. Congratulations to both students for their artistic achievement!
