Victory for New Yorkers
Assemblymember Michael Novakhov (R, C-Brooklyn) today expressed his support for the decision to indefinitely postpone the proposed congestion pricing plan. This outcome marks a significant victory for New Yorkers and the principles of common-sense governance.
"This is a huge win for our community and for common sense," said Novakhov. "Congestion pricing was nothing more than a regressive tax with a mandatory minimum collection goal set yearly. It threatened to exacerbate the financial struggles of New Yorkers who are already suffering from some of the highest taxes in the nation and an ongoing housing crisis."
Novakhov has been a vocal opponent of the congestion pricing plan, joining the lawsuit aimed at preventing its implementation. "I am proud to have stood in support of my community and all New Yorkers facing these challenges," he said. "New Yorkers are struggling, and congestion pricing was poised to make life even more challenging."
Looking ahead, Novakhov expressed hope that the plan will not resurface. "We must continue to prioritize the needs and well-being of New Yorkers, especially those who can least afford additional financial burdens," he emphasized.
Novakhov remains committed to advocating for sensible solutions that address the city's challenges without placing undue burdens on its residents.
