Statement from Assemblyman Michael Novakhov on the Terror Attack In Boulder, Colorado
The targeted terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, at a peaceful walk for Israeli hostages held in Gaza is a despicable and cowardly act of hate-fueled antisemitism.
The victims were participant. in a walk organized by Run for Their Lives, a group that has united communities nationwide, including right here in Sheepshead Bay, to demand the safe return of lsraeli hostages. I've proudly joined their walks in our district, and I am outraged that such a peaceful and human cause was met with violence.
This was not random. It was a deliberate assault on people standing in solidarity with innocent civilians. It was an attack on the Jewish community, on the value of human life, and on the principle that we can gather peacefully to speak out against injustice.
We must be clear: the rhetoric of demonization - calling Israel a "genocidal state," branding its supporters as “war criminals" or "murderers" - is not free speech when it incites violence. It is poison, and it is spreading.
Words matter. So does moral clarity. We must confront antisemitism wherever it hides -whether on the street, online, or in political discourse.
I stand with the victims, their Families and with every member of the Jewish community shaken by this attack. I will continue to speak out, to support our neighbors, and to call this what it is: terrorism.
We will not be silent. We will not back down. And we will never let hate win.
