Tannousis Honors Community Leader Sandy Vallas at Greek Independence Day Celebration
Assemblyman Michael Tannousis (R,C-Staten Island/Brooklyn) yesterday honored Sarantos “Sandy” Vallas during the annual Greek Independence Day celebration in Albany, recognizing his decades of service to the Greek-American community and the people of New York.
Born and raised in Brooklyn to parents who emigrated from Sparta, Greece, Vallas has dedicated much of his life to community service, civic leadership and the preservation of Greek heritage and faith.
“Sandy Vallas represents the very best of our community,” said Tannousis. “His lifelong commitment to faith, family and public service has made a lasting impact not only within the Greek-American community but across Brooklyn and beyond. It was truly an honor to recognize him for his many years of leadership and dedication.”
Vallas has been deeply involved in community organizations throughout his life. He has served in leadership roles within the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, Community Board 10 in Brooklyn, local civic associations and several business improvement districts.
In addition to his civic work, Vallas is a successful local businessman who continues to operate and manage family-owned real estate properties in Bay Ridge.
Tannousis said the event celebrates the contributions of Greek-American leaders who embody the values of service, community and cultural heritage.
“Individuals like Sandy remind us how important it is to stay connected to our roots while giving back to the communities we call home,” Tannousis added. “His dedication to helping others and strengthening our neighborhoods makes him truly deserving of this recognition.”
