Assemblymember Wallace Announces Appointment to Assembly Leadership Position, New Committee Assignments
Today, Assemblymember Monica P. Wallace (D-Lancaster) announced that she had been named the Vice Chair of Majority Steering for the 2021 Legislative Session. The Assembly Steering Committee addresses bills that have significant statewide policy implications.
“I’m honored to have been chosen by Speaker Heastie for this important leadership role,” said Assemblymember Wallace. “I look forward to using my new position to help guide the Assembly Majority’s priorities as we address the unprecedented challenges facing our great state.”
“I am proud to name Assemblymember Monica Wallace the Vice Chair of Majority Steering,” said Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx). “Since joining the Assembly she has proven to be an effective leader and a strong voice for Western New York. She is an invaluable member of our leadership team, and I look forward to seeing her take on this new role.”
Assemblymember Wallace was also named to the Assembly committees on Governmental Operations, Transportation, and Science & Technology. She will continue to serve on the Judiciary, Local Governments, and Veterans Affairs committees, and will remain a member of the Legislative Women’s Caucus and Task Force on Women’s Issues, and chair of the subcommittee on Volunteer Emergency Services.
In her two terms as a New York State legislator, Assemblymember Wallace has successfully advanced legislation in each of these policy areas, including a bill to improve transparency in the judiciary, a bill to prevent“golden parachute” payouts to public employees, and a bill to increase benefits for Gold Star families.
“I’m excited to begin my work with the committees on Governmental Operations, Transportation, and Science & Technology,” said Assemblymember Wallace. “The issues facing these committees are incredibly important to my constituents. Having a role on those committees will provide me with a forum to ensure the needs of Western New Yorkers are being heard in Albany during this critical time.”
