Assemblywoman Nily Rozic Funds Thanksgiving Meals for Local Families
Annual event held in partnership with Commonpoint Queens and its school partners
Rozic allocates $50,000 to local non-profit for holiday meals to homebound seniors and other holiday activities for community
Queens, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D, WF-Fresh Meadows) spent the weekend with Commonpoint Queens volunteers helping prepare dishes for Thanksgiving deliveries to families in need. Utilizing a $50,000 state funding grant that Rozic secured for Commonpoint Queens, the nonprofit was able to prepare holiday meals, make fleece scarves for their holiday coat drive, have a pizza and crafts party for migrant families, and deliver meals to homebound seniors at two of their eight locations, this past Sunday.
At Commonpoint Queens Sam Field Center in Little Neck, volunteers prepared apple crumble, challah bread, and cranberry sauce as well as delivered meals to older adults across Eastern Queens. At the Youth Opportunity Hub in Jamaica the nonprofit held a pizza party for neighborhood families in need. Families were also sent home with prepackaged holiday meals. Both locations welcomed volunteers to knit fleece scarves for the holiday coat drive where coat donations will be given to high school teens in need.
“I am extra grateful this holiday season to be able to give back to our neighbors,” said Assemblywoman Nily Rozic. “I am always thrilled to partner with and fund Commonpoint Queens as their ability to provide for so many and spread the spirit of giving and togetherness is never-failing.”
"It is incredibly meaningful to our organization and community that Assemblywoman Rozic not only supported us financially, but also went above and beyond as a volunteer to make the holidays more special for those in need," said Danielle Ellman, CEO of Commonpoint Queens. "We are so grateful for the Assemblywoman's partnership and commitment to helping us help others."
Commonpoint Queens provides programs and services across 81 locations, with each dedicated to their mission of sustaining and enhancing the quality of individual, family and communal life throughout Queens with social services for people of all ages, ability levels, stages of life and backgrounds. The Sam Field Center is located at 58-20 Little Neck Parkway, in Little Neck and the Youth Opportunity Hub is located at 82-17 Parsons Boulevard in Jamaica.
Additional community investments recently announced by Rozic include over $600,000 to several local schools (M.S. 74, P.S. 162, P.S. 24, Solomon Schechter School of Queens) for gymnasium renovations, auditorium upgrades, and a STEAM lab installation as well as $1 million to NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens for an upgraded infant protection system.
Rozic added “From my family to yours, I wish everyone a happy, healthy, peaceful and safe holiday season.”
