Queens, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) is announcing a state grant of $15,000 that she allocated to Young Israel of Hillcrest to fund adult education programs about Jewish history, tradition, and modern life open to members of the synagogue as well as to the community-at-large.

The program will operate 1 to 2 times a month and will feature Jewish scholars and experts to give lectures and conduct workshops on a variety of topics. Funding will be used to hire guest speakers and instructors as well as to develop course materials such as handouts and multimedia resources. The program will offer free, local, educational opportunities open to the Jewish and non-Jewish community to help foster a deeper understanding, appreciation, and engagement on Jewish culture.

“I hope Young Israel of Hillcrest’s community programming will serve to bring people together at a time when we are being pulled so far apart by hate and intolerance,” said Assemblywoman Nily Rozic. “Sharing and learning is necessary to create a healthy society centered in respect and kindness. I am proud to fund these lecture series and workshops that will welcome all and create spaces for meaningful dialogue, learning, and the sharing of Jewish values that shape our community.”

Young Israel of Hillcrest serves a modern orthodox community and operates as a major hub for daily and Shabbat minyanim in the region. The institution also offers youth programs and community space for special private or community events. Young Israel of Hillcrest is located on Jewel Avenue and 169th Street in Fresh Meadows.

Additional community investments recently announced by Rozic include a $175,000 grant to P4Q@179 in Fresh Meadows for the renovation of the school’s auditorium, $320,000 to M.S.74 in Oakland Gardens to upgrade the school’s Public Announcement system, and $250,000 to P.S. 213 in Bayside for a brand new student library.
