Rozic and Meng Host Homeowner Townhall

Queens, NY— Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) held a Homeowner Townhall in conjunction with Congresswoman Grace Meng (D-Queens) to assist homeowners with issues such as: property taxes, foreclosure prevention, financial assistance and loan programs, school zoning, traffic calming, STAR exemption, and community safety. City and state agencies, community groups, financial institutions, and utility companies gathered at the Armenian Church of Holy Martyrs in Bayside Hills to answer questions and concerns from local residents.

Assemblywoman Rozic said, “I organized this town hall meeting to bring agencies, non-profits, and residents together to help move us in the right direction and to assist people who are buying or maintaining a home in Eastern Queens.”

“Owning a home is part of the American dream,” said U.S. Rep. Grace Meng. “But it’s also a huge responsibility, and thanks to this town hall, current and prospective homeowners can learn what they need to know about home ownership. I am happy to partner with Assemblywoman Rozic on this important event so that our constituents are aware of both the benefits and responsibilities of owning a home.”

Michael Feiner, President of the Bayside Hills Civic Association, said, “I am most appreciative of this homeowners’ forum. Many of us were not aware of the tax exemption and an explanation of why it exists. I am glad that there are many agencies and their representatives to assist the community on these issues.”

Rozic also announced that her district office will be holding a STAR program workshop and registration drive on Sunday, October 27 from 11 AM to 2 PM at 159-16 Union Turnpike, Flushing, NY 11366. The New York State Department of Taxation of Finance and New York City Department of Finance will be holding workshops and registering qualified property owners. For more information, neighbors and community members should contact Rozic’s office at (718) 820-0241 or rozicn@assembly.state.ny.us.
