Rozic Supports Equal Pay Day Resolution
April 8 declared Equal Pay Day
Queens, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) announced that the Assembly passed a resolution declaring April 8 as Equal Pay Day in New York State (K.1034). April 8th marks the day in 2014 when the average woman’s earnings will catch up to what the average man earned in 2013.
Assemblywoman Nily Rozic said, “By declaring this day Equal Pay Day, the unfairness of wage disparity starts a conversation about the enormous effects it has on New York women and their families, as well as the economy as a whole. Implementing fair pay policies can be done simply and wouldn’t cause undue costs or hardships in either the private or public sectors.”
Earlier this year, for the second year in a row, the Assembly passed the Women’s Equality Act (WEA), with pay equity being one of its 10 points. Unfortunately, the State Senate has failed to take action on the WEA in its entirety.
Rozic will continue to work with advocates and community stakeholders to ensure the passage of the WEA in both houses of the legislature.
