Rozic Hosts Queens Regent Judith Chin in Flushing
Organizes meet and greet to encourage school-community partnerships
Flushing, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) hosted a meet and greet in her district office today for Queens Regent Judith J. Chin. Superintendents, principals, Community Education Council members, and teachers from School Districts 25 and 26 were in attendance.
“When Regent Chin was elected to the Board of Regents, I was confident that her years of experience would go a long way in serving Queens students,” said Rozic. “I am happy to bring the community together to discover what we can achieve together and better our schools.”
Rozic held the meet and greet so that community members could learn more about Regent Chin’s role as the Queens representative and her previous work in the education system. Prior to joining the State Board of Regents, she served as the Regional Superintendent and Chief Education Officer for School Districts 25 and 26.
“In my role as the Regent for the borough of Queens, I welcome the opportunity to listen to voices from the field to help make informed decisions as it relates to statewide education policies that are both transparent and practical. Together our efforts can make a difference in improving schools to increase academic achievement for all students,” Regent Chin.
Today’s event is part of Rozic’s efforts to ensure that voices at the table reflect the diversity and growth of Northeast Queens and its schools. It was an opportunity to not only receive clarity on how the Board operates, but also on how the community can support and contribute to measures that will improve access to resources and quality education.
“Community School District 25 is proud to have Judith Chin as the elected 11th Judicial District Regent. One of the primary goals of our district is to create welcoming environments for families and to take advantage of community resources to enrich the civic life of all students. We believe that parent engagement creates a shared world in which educators and parents lay their knowledge alongside one another to support and enhance learning outcomes for our students. Regent Chin, as long time educator has vast knowledge of the needs of our schools, our children and their families. I look forward to working with her,” said School District 25 Community Superintendent Danielle DiMango.
“It is a great honor to have Regent Judith Chin return to Queens as the Queens Regent representative. Regent Chin has left a legacy of excellence in education in District 26 dating back to the time she served as the Regional Superintendent for Region 3. Regent Chin embodies the elements of the Framework for Great Schools as well as the core values we hold dearly for our community schools in District 26,” said School District 26 Community Superintendent Danielle Giunta.
Regent Chin began her three-year term last March. Her election to the Board of Regents by the State Legislature made her the first Asian-American member in the Board’s 231-year history.
Since then, she has continued her service to students using her experiences in the NYC public school system to address changing dynamics.
She added, “As a lifelong educator, as well as a parent and a grandparent, I deeply understand and appreciate the essential role that parents, family members, schools and the broader community play in the growth and development of its young people. Successful school-parent-community partnerships need to be well integrated to assure high quality education for all our students.”
