Rozic, 107th Precinct Inform Local Seniors
Fresh Meadows, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) partnered with the 107th Precinct last Friday to provide seniors with scam prevention tips. At the SelfHelp Fresh Meadows Senior Center, Rozic and Captain Paul Valerga, Commanding Officer of the 107th Precinct, urged seniors to be suspicious of callers looking for immediate payment for any reason. Captain Valerga explained scammers have been calling victims and claiming to be collecting payment on behalf of a relative, debt from a utility company, the IRS, settlement for an auto accident, or even the local NYPD precinct. Victims are then asked to load money onto a Green Dot MoneyPak Card.
Members of the community are to use caution and should not, under any circumstances, give out personal or financial information to people who call or email unsolicited. No utility companies or government agencies, including the IRS, will ever call requesting immediate payment via Green Dot MoneyPak. If anyone has any questions about scam prevention tips, Rozic’s office can be contacted at 718-820-0241.
