Rozic Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Fresh Meadows, NY–Yesterday at the Queens Library at Fresh Meadows, Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) hosted her Fourth Annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration. The event opened with remarks made by Rozic, Borough President Melinda Katz, State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, and Assemblyman Edward Braunstein; and featured cultural performances, a photo exhibit, and an award ceremony honoring community members and their contributions.
This year’s honorees included Rana Abdelhamid, President of the Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment; Pauline Chu, President of the Chinese American Parents Association; Madhulika S. Khandelwal, Director of the CUNY Queens College Asian/American Center and Associate Professor in Urban Studies Department; Katherine Kim, Executive Director of the YWCA of Queens; and Paul Je Bong Yoo, President of the Korean American Association of Queens.
Rozic and honorary host Congresswoman Grace Meng were joined by their colleagues in celebrating AAPI Heritage Month. The event was also co-sponsored by City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer, Public Advocate Letitia James, Borough President Melinda Katz, State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Assemblyman Ron Kim, Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, Council Member Barry S. Grodenchik, Council Member Peter Koo, Council Member Rory Lancman, and Council Member Paul Vallone.
