Rozic, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs Kick Off IDNYC Pop-Up in Flushing
Enrollment center at Selfhelp Innovative Center will run through March 2nd
Flushing, NY – Today, Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows), State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (D-Flushing), Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs Assistant Commissioner
Kavita Pawria-Sanchez, and members of the IDNYC team announced the opening of the enrollment pop-up site at the Selfhelp Benjamin Rosenthal Prince Street Innovative Senior Center.
“I once again join the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs to bring another IDNYC pop-up to my constituents. As we saw in Bayside, these pop-ups have played an integral role in increasing membership, and making it easier for residents to travel to their nearest enrollment site,” said Assemblywoman Rozic. “I look forward to seeing the IDNYC team in Flushing over the next few weeks as they enroll applicants joining thousands of cardholders who have made the program a great success.”
Early last year, Assemblywoman Rozic and the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs partnered to bring a pop-up enrollment center to the Bayside Library. Despite there being a number of permanent enrollment sites throughout the five boroughs, these pop-ups are intended to increase access to City residents. For seniors who participate in activities at Selfhelp, the pop-up will make it easier for them to accommodate an appointment as part of their visit.
“Since its roll-out, the IDNYC program has proven to be beneficial for New Yorkers with close to a million IDs issued so far,” said State Senator Stavisky. “In my own district, the Flushing Library saw a surge of interest from people looking to take advantage of this great program. Whether it be immigrants in need of photo identification or families looking to take advantage of free or member-price admission to partnering museums and cultural facilities, IDNYC has become a staple of our city. I am glad Selfhelp is hosting the ‘Pop-Up’ Enrollment Site in Flushing and I urge everyone to take full advantage.”
“IDNYC is every New Yorkers’ key to the city they love,” said Assistant Commissioner Kavita Pawria-Sanchez. “We are proud to work with leaders like Assemblywoman Rozic to encourage New Yorkers to enroll in IDNYC and we are very thankful to SelfHelp for their assistance, allowing the City to set up a pop-up enrollment site at the SelfHelp Innovative Center in Flushing.”
“Selfhelp Community Services is excited to host a pop-up enrollment center at our Benjamin Rosenthal-Prince Street Senior Center. Having a pop-up site at our center will greatly enhance the range of services that our senior center provides and will make it easier for our members, and others throughout Flushing to take advantage of this important program. I thank the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, Assembly Member Nily Rozic, Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, and Council Member Peter Koo for work to bring IDNYC to Flushing.” – Sandy Myers, Director of Government and External Relations, Selfhelp Community Services
Members of the IDNYC team will be on-site to enroll applicants through March 2nd. Walk-ins are not guaranteed, so those interested in applying for an IDNYC card are advised to reserve an appointment by visiting www.nyc.gov/idnyc or calling 311. Both IDNYC’s website and 311 have free interpretation and translation capabilities. The City will not ask applicants for information about their immigration status.
Since its launch in 2015, the IDNYC program has provided eligible City residents with free photo identification allowing cardholders to access numerous services and benefits offered by City agencies and local institutions. Additionally, the card can be used at any public library across the five boroughs and serves as valid photo ID to open up accounts at certain banks and credit unions.
