Flushing, NY – Today, Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) announced that Emily Ramprashad of John Bowne High School has been selected as a nominee for the Career and Technical Education for the 2018 Presidential Scholars Program. Ms. Ramprashad joins 24 other high school seniors across the state that have been recognized.

“I am delighted to congratulate Emily Ramprashad of John Bowne High School on being nominated by the New York State Education Department as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program,” said Rozic. “Queens students as talented and hard working as Emily deserve recognition by New York State, and I thank Commissioner Elia and John Bowne High School for elevating and nurturing one of our best and brightest.”

Established in 1964 by executive order of the President, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program honors our nation’s most distinguished high school students. The program was extended in 1979 to recognize students demonstrating exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. Most recently, the program was extended to recognize students demonstrating exceptional talent in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

Students chosen as U.S. Presidential Scholars receive a trip to Washington, D.C. in June and the

U.S. Presidential Scholars medallion at a ceremony sponsored by the White House. During their visit to Washington, Scholars will meet important national and international figures, including government officials, educators, authors, musicians and scientists.

John Bowne High School is located in Flushing and is one of the most diverse school communities in Queens.
