Rozic Statement on Equal Pay Day
April 10, 2018
Queens, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows), Chair of the Task Force on Women’s Issues issued the following statement regarding Equal Pay Day:
“Today is Equal Pay Day – a designation that not only calls attention to the ever-persistent pay gap but also serves as a stark reminder that the fight for full women’s equality is far from over. April 10th represents how far into the year women must work to earn the same amount their male counterparts made during the previous year. Nationally, women earn just 80 cents for every dollar a man does, and it’s even less for African-American and Hispanic women. The pay gap costs women hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of their lifetimes –an injustice that hurts them, their families, and the economy.
“Although New York State is the closest to closing the pay gap in the country, women here still make only 89 cents for every dollar a man makes. We should be far past this point in the year 2018. Each and every New Yorker, regardless of gender, deserves equality, opportunity, and the chance to succeed, and I’ll keep fighting until that is our reality.”
