Rozic Allocates Funding to Queens Synagogues & Jewish Institutions
Funding will go toward adult education programming and tutoring services for students
Rozic: capacity building in the Jewish community is essential
Queens, NY -- Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D-Fresh Meadows) announced that she allocated funding to four synagogues in her district to help fund programming and continuing education services. The synagogues that received funding include Beit Eliyahu Fresh Meadows Bukharian Synagogue, Flushing Fresh Meadows Jewish Center, Young Israel of Hillcrest, and Torath Emeth.
“Over the course of the pandemic, synagogues stepped in to fill essential needs within their communities going above and beyond to provide for struggling families and enhancing lives,” said Assemblywoman Rozic. “With this increased funding, we are ensuring our local temples have the resources they need to continue providing educational and communal resources and human services to our communities.”
Robert Aronov, Beit Eliyahu Fresh Meadows Bukharian Synagogue, said: “On behalf of the Fresh Meadows Bukharian Synagogue, I thank Assemblywoman Nily Rozic for her kind support. We look forward to using these funds to facilitate our chess classes and tutoring programming to ensure our youth will continue to excel in their studies and become more involved in their community.”
Rabbi Daniel Wolpe, The Flushing Fresh Meadows Jewish Center said: “We are very grateful for these funds because they will enable a community that has been separated so badly during the COVID-19 pandemic to come together again in joy, happiness and community.”
Rabbi Dr. Richard Weiss, Young Israel of Hillcrest said: “On behalf of the Young Israel of Hillcrest and the Hillcrest Jewish community, I want to thank Assemblywoman Nily Rozic and the NY State Assembly for the very generous grant to our Synagogue. The funding will be allocated for Adult Education Programs for the community, and the genuine support of these programs will provide diverse, meaningful and inspirational opportunities for all members of the community.”
Rabbi Benjamin Kessler, Torath Emeth said: “On behalf of Congregation Torath Emeth, I want to thank Assemblywoman Nily Rozic from our district for her support that will further educate our community about basic first aid procedures and what to do in the event of a medical emergency. I am confident that this program will increase community awareness during health emergencies and save lives.”
Rozic has been a longtime champion of the Jewish community— ensuring social service funding for Holocaust survivors, increasing funding for public safety and security, passing legislation to aid in the recognition of hate crimes, and ensuring compliance with Holocaust education requirements. This latest round of funding is in recognition of the essential services synagogues and institutions have been providing the community throughout the pandemic.
