Assemblymember Hunter: 2016-17 State Budget Makes Major Investments in Education
The 2016-17 state budget includes an increase in school aid, highlighting the Assembly’s commitment to helping every child in New York State achieve their full potential.
“Our final budget makes critical investments in our children’s education because for too long, our schools have been bearing the brunt of the fiscal crisis, resulting in drastic cuts to essential programs and personnel,” said Assemblymember Hunter. “I am proud that we are increasing foundation aid and completely restoring the GEA. We have a responsibility to our communities and our children, and I will continue to fight until we fulfill our obligations and provide every child with an education that prepares them to be successful in the future.”
The budget includes increases for the following school districts:
- East Syracuse-Minoa Central School District will receive a 7.22% increase from last year bringing them to $28,183,221;
- Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District will receive a 0.10% increase from last year bringing them to $18,516,742;
- Jamesville-Dewitt School District will receive a 6.72% increase from last year bringing them to $12,881,687;
- LaFayette School District will receive a 15.51% increase from last year bringing them to $10,822,095;
- Liverpool Central School District will receive a 6.45% increase from last year bringing them to $62,473,920;
- Lyncourt School District will receive a 3.39% increase from last year bringing them to $3,596,146;
- Marcellus Central School District will receive a 6.39% increase from last year bringing them to $13,908,477;
- North Syracuse Central School District will receive a 4.4% increase from last year bringing them to $68,749,450;
- Onondaga Central School District will receive a 7.65% increase from last year bringing them to $9,775,677;
- Syracuse City School District will receive a 6.88% increase from last year bringing them to $326,529,261;
- West Genesee Central School District will receive a 7.72% increase from last year bringing them to $32,695,108;
- Westhill School District will receive a 1.13% increase from last year bringing them to $13,567,362.
