Assemblymember Hunter: Governor’s Budget Proposal Addresses Key Issues
“The governor’s budget proposal laid out a number of promising initiatives that will help move Central New York in the right direction. As a staunch supporter of public schools, I’m encouraged by his efforts to ensure that schools in high-need districts, like those in Syracuse, receive equitable funding. This proposal represents a critical investment in our future, because providing our children the tools they need to succeed – no matter where they live or how much their families earn –strengthens our communities.
“Reliable transportation is the cornerstone of a thriving economy. Here in Central New York, safe and reliable public transportation is a necessity. The governor is continuing the state’s commitment to upgrading local roads and bridges, building upon past efforts to help bring infrastructure up to 21st-century standards without further burdening taxpayers.
“Another highlight included in the governor’s budget includes pushback against the federal government’s new tax code, which eliminates state and local tax deductions and deals a devastating blow to low-income and middle-class families. We face some difficult budget decisions this year, but as always, I’ll fight to get the results Central New York needs to grow.
