Chludzinski Announces Nearly $300,000 Investment in Cheektowaga Public Library Infrastructure

Assemblyman Pat Chludzinski (R,C–Cheektowaga), the ranking Minority member on the Assembly Library and Education Technology Committee, today announced a $298,099 state investment to support critical construction and infrastructure improvements at the Cheektowaga Public Library, locally known as the Anna Reinstein Memorial Library.

The funding will be used to replace the library’s leaking flat roof, repair damaged vertical support columns and replace associated cement bases and footers, ensuring the long-term safety, functionality and preservation of the facility.

“Our libraries are more than just buildings. They are community anchors that provide educational resources, workforce support and safe spaces for residents of all ages,” said Chludzinski. “This investment addresses serious structural issues and helps ensure the Cheektowaga Public Library remains open, safe and accessible for years to come.”

The project addresses long-standing facility concerns that, if left unaddressed, could lead to more costly repairs and service disruptions in the future. By making these upgrades now, the library will be better positioned to continue serving Cheektowaga families, students and seniors.

Chludzinski reaffirmed his commitment to supporting local libraries and investing in community infrastructure across Erie County. The funding is part of a statewide initiative in which the New York State Education Department and New York State Library approved 212 construction projects across New York. The State Library provides technical assistance and reviews each application before submission to the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) to ensure projects are well prepared and eligible for funding.

Many of New York’s public libraries—more than one-third of which are over 100 years old—face ongoing infrastructure challenges, including outdated wiring, accessibility needs and energy inefficiencies. The State Aid for Library Construction Program helps modernize facilities, expand broadband access and better serve communities of all sizes.
