Assemblymember Phil Steck Presents $500k Grant to Town of Niskyauna for River Road Park
Assemblymember Phil Steck today presented a $500k grant to the Town of Niskayuna that will be used to build new bathrooms and a splash pad at River Road Park. The event also celebrated the completion of a new inclusive playground at the park, which was made possible by a $250,000 grant from the Assemblymember last year.
“I am grateful for Assemblymember Steck’s continued support of our efforts to improve the quality of life in our town for everyone,” said Supervisor Puccioni. “This generous check brings the total of the Assemblymember’s grants to one million dollars in recent years. We will continue to use this funding for extensive town park improvements that provide access and recreation for Niskayuna residents of all ages and abilities,” she continued.
“I am always proud to help fund park improvement projects, like the new splash pad and nearby bathrooms, that will allow families to come together and enjoy cost-free activities in our community,” remarked Assemblymember Steck. “Supervisor Puccioni has a track record of optimizing grant dollars by making smart decisions and leveraging town employee resources to do the work, when possible. From new tennis and pickleball courts at Avon Crest Park to enhanced hiking trails, the Town of Niskayuna has completed several grant-supported projects in record time and on-budget,” he continued.
The new splash pad, inclusive-use bathrooms, and changing room project is slated for completion in 2024 and will expand facilities to an open park space near the girls’ softball fields. In addition, work is now underway on a new pavilion and parking lot for that same area -- both supported by a $250,000 grant from Assemblymember Steck last year. The new inclusive playground is officially open and features equipment for children with different mobilities, including a basket swing.
Town Board Member Bill McPartlon chairs the town Public Works Committee that oversees parks and facilities. “I’m proud of the hard work our town employees contribute to the success and efficiency of many of these park improvement projects,” he noted.
“Creating and improving spaces for residents of all ages to play, relax, refresh and enjoy the outdoors is a priority for me as Supervisor”, remarked Puccioni. Niskayuna’s many parks make our town special and with support from Assemblymember Steck, together we can continue to make them even better, for everyone, without spending Niskayuna taxpayer dollars.”
