“Property tax relief is the highlight of Governor Cuomo’s recently unveiled tax plan. The shift toward tying property taxes to a homeowner’s income level and ability to pay or a ‘circuit breaker’ is the right idea at the right time. We need to ensure those at the lower end of the tax bracket see their taxes reduced. History has shown that when lower income families receive tax breaks their ability to spend in the local economy is greatly increased. While reducing the property tax burden taxpayers face is a step in the right direction, we must not lose sight of the need to raise revenue, so that the state can make necessary investment in infrastructure that is essential to spur economic growth.”
