Palmesano Meets with Families of Correction Officers in Albany

Recently, Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C-Corning) had the pleasure of meeting with family members of correction officers (COs) from throughout the state. He had the opportunity to thank them for the sacrifices they make and for coming to Albany to make their voices heard on how the safety and staffing crisis happening at our correctional facilities has impacted the well-being and quality of life of our COs and their families.

“It was a privilege to meet with and talk to the spouses and loved ones of COs from all across New York. I told them thank you! Something they and our COs do not hear, nor are they shown, nearly enough. I also thanked them for coming to Albany to share their personal stories of how the safety and security crisis at our state prisons is negatively impacting the quality of life of our COs and their families. It is long past due for New York state to start prioritizing the safety and quality of life of our dedicated COs, who work a very dangerous job to keep us safe,” said Palmesano.

"I also gave them my commitment that I would continue to speak out in support of our COs and their families. I will always have their backs and will continue to advocate for better pay and benefits, including the "death gamble," to protect their pensions for their families, which, unfortunately, the governor has now vetoed twice. And I will continue to be vocal and fight for the suspension and full repeal of the failed and dangerous HALT Act so our COs can be safer while doing their jobs," added Palmesano.

"Finally, I just want to thank our COs and their families again for the tremendous sacrifices they make for all of us. Words do no justice to express the thanks and debt of gratitude we have and owe to all of you,” concluded Palmesano.
