Today I join with all of our community greatly relieved that the hostage situation at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas was resolved. Our hearts and prayers were with the victims and their families and the law enforcement personnel that worked together so effectively.

This regretful circumstance stands as a stark reminder that the rampant scourge of antisemitism and bigotry must be confronted at all levels. We must re-double our efforts as a society, especially as we honor the Reverend Dr. King tomorrow, to defeat domestic terrorism, racism, and intolerance. Otherwise the lessons of yesterday will truly be in vain.
