Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright, outraged by the Supreme Court's decision to strike down every woman's fundamental reproductive right to an abortion, is gathering local Upper East Side, Yorkville and Roosevelt Island residents for a rally in Carl Schurz Park.

We are fortunate in New York to have the strongest laws in that nation protecting reproductive rights, including the 2019 Reproductive Health Act. As the Assembly sponsor of the Equality Amendment, she is working with her colleagues in the Legislature to enshrine the right to abortion into the New York State Constitution.

Assembly Member Seawright was mentored by the late Sarah Weddington who successfully argued Roe v Wade to the Supreme Court nearly a half-century ago. Noting the importance of motivating the next generation of women to keep up the fight for reproductive health freedoms, Seawright encourages neighbors of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in activism.
