Carroll’s Legislation Protecting New Yorker’s Credit Rating Passes the New York State Assembly
Prohibits late payment of cashless tolls from impacting credit scores
Albany, NY – Assemblymember Robert Carroll (D/WF - 44) announced that his bill A.3055/S.2198, prohibiting late payment of cashless tolls from impacting credit scores, passed the Assembly yesterday. Assemblymembers throughout the state, including Assemblymember Carroll, have frequently been contacted by constituents hit with rapidly escalating fines and fees for tolls they were often unaware of.
“Cashless tolling is an important part of an efficient transportation system and people should absolutely pay their tolls in a timely manner, but no one should have their credit rating ruined for fines and fees on unpaid tolls without clear and timely communication of these charges,” said Assemblymember Robert Carroll. “This legislation removes an unnecessarily punitive approach to enforcement and I hope that it will spur the agencies responsible for toll collection to improve their protocols and practices."
