Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo (R,C-Staten Island) recognized Staten Island local Dr. Vincent Joseph Maligno in honor of Vietnam Veterans Day, which is celebrated today. Dr. Maligno is a distinguished veteran and former Air Force member who is being recognized for his unwavering commitment to duty, selfless service and ongoing dedication to the community. Dr. Maligno, acclaimed for his outstanding contributions during the Vietnam War era, epitomized the enduring spirit of sacrifice and resilience exemplified by our nation's veterans.

Beyond his military service, Dr. Maligno made significant contributions to his community, serving as an educator and later becoming principal of Mother Cabrini High School. His impact on Staten Island extended beyond his professional endeavors, as he actively participated in various veteran organizations and community initiatives.

His extensive involvement with organizations such as the Andersen-Lagno VFW Post 5090, Watkins-Kellett American Legion Post 277, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 421, along with his role as the Staten Island air liaison officer for the Air Force Academy, exemplifies his dedication to supporting and honoring our nation's veterans. Additionally, Dr. Maligno's passion for his Italian heritage and community is evident in his service as a trustee for the Sons/Daughters of Italy in America Father Capodanno Lodge 212, leaving an indelible mark on the fabric of the borough.
